This has been mentioned quite a few times. I believe Gaile replied to one post saying that this was a very important issue, and that if there was not enough information at the beginning of the game, that they would definitely be working on that. It'll be interesting to see how they address this.

Default Safety Net

Hey Everyone,
I just had a great idea come to me as I was grumbling about my stupid error in the Feb beta and am surprised noone else has mentioned it before. As we recall the Feb beta was the first we saw of pre-seared Ascalon.....and to play in it we had to start with a zero level char and build it up....this was great but I thought that meant I had to delete my other chars to "enable" this feature..... so I did....boooooo.... of course later I found out that I could just create a new one and keep my other chars......now I know that the error is all mine..but what about a safety net that allows you to reinstate a char that was accidently deleted.....maybe like an hour grace period before it is permanent??......It is a serious bummer to lose a char that is level 20 all from the push of one button!! ..just an idea.....I hope it never happens to you....

If only I had thought of that without experiencing it the hard way...
...oh wait, that's spam! Better make this post worthwhile.

I don't have a little sister, especially not one named Gwen, but if I did and she came along and pressed 'delete' after my 546430986734 hours spent playing a character...I would be through the roof. I would probably be so mad as to give up on gw. Well maybe not...but there really should be some sort of grace period, and more than just the usual 'are you sure you want to delete this character?'.

While I'm at it, I have to enforce the decisions to revamp the skills. I am probably saying this in vain, but meh. My beef is with the elementalist: why bother with any lines other that fire? Sure air has knockdown and armor piercing...water snares...earth protects...but at the cost/cast/cooldowns those other lines are at, they are no match for fire. Fire does have some hefty energy prices, but they are accurate, for the most part, for what they put out. The other three lines cannot be used as the main offensive spells with any rate of success when compared to fire, and at most are just casual entertainment. At the very least, give us a staple attack for each element that we can find early and use without compromise. Take out the 25% armor penality if you must, lower the max damage if you have to....but give us something we can use without wasting our time on uselessness. I'd like to be able to specialize (effectively) with something other than fire.

EDIT: That's a bit of an exaggeration, but really, the other el lines need some desperate help.

I believe that you have to type in the character's name to delete it. About the fire elementalist issue, I think it's pretty even. During last beta I saw more water Elementalist.
I've a few suggestions (if have not been mention before).
First of all the Guild Wars ad on Computer Gaming World doesn't look appealing at all, it is very hard to determine the genre of the game (no screenshots?).
Now go to in game changes:
If all goes well you guys should add another arena (I call it Death Pit) which allows Guilds to meet other guilds for battle challenge, it would be cool if there is a stake system, like if both guilds agree to fight for a certain amount of money or so. About the arena it can be creative as you guys can think of or just a plain gladiator kind of field where one guild is on each end charging toward the other. Since Guild Wars is "all about having fun" I dont think that the cap limit for the number of people should apply (of course the challenged guild must know how many people in the other team before making their decision).
I think it would be great if Guild Wars staff to held monthly tournaments for prizes (or give Guilds this option), I imagine gladiator arena would be a good place. For example, each individual has to pay a fee let say 100 gold, to enter the tourney. Then they can click enter mission and randomly fight others, after say 5 round, top 4 or so go to the final. The team that won get let say 50 percent of the total entrance money, second receive 25 percent, third 15, and 4th 10 percent. You guys can probably play around this idea more than I can.
Since I haven't been playing many GuildvGuild, Im not sure if there is a type of game that doesn't have Guild Lord, or we choose our Guild Lord. But I personally just like it if you just kill everyone in opposition team in a GuildvGuild battle.
Thank you for reading and feel free to give me some feedbacks.

Hi, haven't read the whole thread so, if it already has suggested sorry

Skills:

A lot of ppl use different skills for PvP, GvG and PvE. What about making arrows on the right side of the Skill bar (up/down) to switch between different Skill sets (only in city/outposts ^^). So we don't always need to drag and drop the skills again and again, would be nice.

Guild:

If you'r in a City/Outpost and you click on any player, who is in a guild, then there should appear a button called 'Guild Info' (or something like that). If you click on it a new window opens containing following info's:

Permanent
  • Full Guild Name
  • Guild rank
  • Short Guild description e.g.: 'This Guild is PvP only' (if available)
  • Status (I'll explain that later)

Optional (can be set by officer/leader wheter it should be shown or not)
  • Membercount
  • Won/Lost Fights (since you can't see that out of guild rank)
  • Long Guild description e.g.: How the Guild was formed, whats the Story behind the guild and so on (if available)
  • URL to Guild-Homepage (if available)

What do I mean with Status?
There should be 3 Flags:
  1. Full
  2. Invite only
  3. Recruiting

Full: Is pretty selfexplaining ^^
Invite only: The only way to get into this Guild is if a Officer/Leader hands you out an invitation
Recruiting: If this is the current status another Button will appear in this Guild window called 'Send Request'. This Request will contain the Name of the Player, Class and some optional Info given by the user himselve (own written text).

PvP:

Heck, bring in the 1vs1 . But let us select the enemy by ourselve. I want to smash my friends ^^. (I know Warrior vs. Monk isn't fair at all, but hell who cares)

Well, I have now officially read this entire thread so I feel fairly certain that if I address something I know its been said before

1. I would like to see the whisper command in the chat window have an /all option. This way I could talk to everyone on my friends list at the same time, it would make co-ordinating our movements a bit easier. I will have more friends on my list than I can party with, and although I don't have a guild at this time, I am thinking about making one to make communication between friends eaiser, but not everyone on my friends list will be in my guild, they may be in other guilds and I would like to see ease of talking to my list.

2. When scouring Old Ascalon and our party gets separated (I tend to wander off!) it would be helpful if there were directional markers to follow to catch up with our party...or as has happened to me, if a party member dies, their body should be shown on the map for ease of doin rez. The player that died literally had to direct me to where he was, and I walked by him several times, because he was in a little crevice in the game LOL.

2a. This directional marker would also come in handy for our charmed animals as well (BTW I love my charmed Melandrous "Kitty" it has taken a LOT of abuse for me). A friend and I spent almost an hour in the water near Kings Gate (which we never found btw) looking for my "kitty's" body so I could revive him. Fortunately I finally moved my mouse over a spot and saw it! I know...we could have disbanned and gone back to town, and come back and he would have been fine....but this was probably our 5th attempt at trying to get this quest (which we never did btw) and we didn't want to do that lvl 8 monster one more time (although we were getting quite good at it)!!

3. Also, when playing only 2 in a party, when one dies, it doesn't go to the ressurection point but just lays there. The other player (if not a monk or can't use their 1 time per quest rez) then has to suffer either a death pentaly (which I like the death penalty better than losing exp....but could ya tone it down just a bit?????) because I have to die for both of us to ressurect, or we have to abandon and break up and go back to town, then go through the hassel of finding each other (although again....by the end of March BWE we were getting quite good at that as well). I can't think of a workable (I know....not a word) solution to this, but it is extremely frustating, and my friend and I both, several times said we are not sure we'll purchase the game and play it full-time if these hassels are going to be ongoing. I think we've both decided we will in fact play the game but still anything you can do to improve this would be much appreciated!!

4. As far as /emote goes...it is fun occassionally to see or do this, especially if your just standing around waiting for party members to finish business and such, but I don't think we need to see everyone! Possible solution to this would be to just see those in your party, or guild (large guilds could have a problem here).

5. Seeing others equipment? No not mine....I play Diablo II currently, and there is a hack that people use that can see everyone's armor but personally...What I have, if I want you to know....I'll show you, otherwise...it's none of your business.

6. Profanity filters? They are great...but also can be gotten around by any creative thinker. Actually I have to get around it a lot, since a friend that I play with, his real name is **** when I type it anywhere but in whisper! So I have developed a way to say his name so that it comes out his name. This can happen with any profanity you can think of so although you can protect from most things you can't protect from everything, so viewer discretion needs to be allowed and a definite /ignore that works well used.

7. Character names...should be as creative as a persons imagination no matter what the "era" of the game is. If you find the name offensive (again filters can protect from most but not all) then put that name on ignore, or just move on. Making comments to them usually does no good, since they make those names for "shock" value or they will hound you to death if they know it offends you Deletion of a persons account or character is a serious matter and should only be done in instances of abuse. If user names are mentioned in the terms of agreement, then Anet should have the right to delete those accounts or characters without warning.

8. Inventory/storage...ongoing need for every game I have ever played in this genre, unless you have hacks (which I truly hope GW doesn't get too many of to start with...what a waste of money to invest in a game if your not going to learn to play it). It would be nice to have more or stack items better, and it would really be nice to have a way to transfer this nifty bow I found while playing my necro/monk to my warrior/ranger! But, if that doesn't happen, people will just create multiple accounts (as they do on Diablo II) to handle this load, and take up even more bandwidth/space.

Okay....think that's all I can think of at the moment.....can't wait only 13 more days!!!!!!!

i still want more small things to happen... it would be cool to do dumb things for commical feeling just for fun. not just emotes but actual like doing things.
Also for the movie i think it could get better if it didnt show the life bar, but its just my opinion

Gaile, I wrote a full column critiquing your skill system in detail that should appear on gwonline.net in a few days. Hopefully it will help some!

---Player Search List---
However, in the meantime, having a list of people that are looking for group would be very nice. Hunting for people that want to go with you into explorable areas becomes a real pain in town. If people could flag themselves for invites and be invited from a distance it would be really helpful.

---Hex/Enchant Counter---
Many of the abilities in the game rely on stripping X number of hexes and enchants. Having a counter beneath the player health bar would make reaction time a lot quicker than simply trying to guess if the "glowing thing" around the character is an enchantment or hex.

EDIT: BTW, there really should be a limit for how many posts a player can post in this thread =p

Anyhow, now I'm trying to do the bunker with a useless henchman who just charges, draws out everyone he sees and then dies. I've tried perhaps 8 times, now, and can't seem to take on any less than 4 opponents at a time. I can't log out and go back, can't change my skill set -- I'll probably have to scrap everything and start over, because it's clear I'm never getting out of the Academy portion.

I may have been that warrior. I lost my weapon somehow. and all I could use was my monk skills. But I agree with you on that bunker quest. Nearly impossible and aggravating.

I don't like the idea of having a counter though, that would take some of the realism out of it. Maby different "glowing things" that would give you a better clue as to what it is.

Future features suggestion:
A new class call thief in future expansion, this class basically have the ability to wield 2 weapons (maybe require a skill to do so uh.. Weapon mastery?). With 4 attributes
Agility (prime)-for each point increase character running speed by 0.5% and ncrease effectiveness of Agility skills. Roughly speaking this skill will help your character move fast and dodge attacks. This attribute could link to skill like haste- jump toward target and gain 20% chance to block next melee attack for 1-5 secs, but suffer 20% attack failer for 5-1 seconds.etc. Note: this skill we require energy activate.
Trick- increase effectiveness of trick skills. This is a skill that involve using thief stuff like Smoke Bombs-blind everyone around for 2-6 seconds or Time Bomb- explode in 5 seconds and deals 60-120 damage to everyone around. While activating this skill, you are easily interrupted.etc. Note: this skill we require energy to activate.
Luck-increase effectiveness of luck skills. This skill should revolve around chances. Where every skills will have 30-5% failure and all of the character's skills are disable for 2 second. This attribute should revolve around a variety of skills like Final assault (melee base)- quadruple your next attack and deal an additional 10-40 damage. This skill has a 25% chance of draining all of your energy and deal 80-20 damage to you. Another could be Bargain with the Devil-60%-20% loose half of your max life & energy for 20-10 seconds. You take half damage from all sources and immune to Disease & Condition for 10-20 seconds. etc. Note: this skill we require energy to activate.
Weapon Mastery- for each point increase character attack speed by 0.5% with skills like Dual Sword/Axe/Dagger(if there is one)- able to wield 2 weapons at the same time. Dual Arrows- Shoot 2 arrows at the same time. Poison Wepons (Elite)- , Enemies struck by your attacks become poisoned for 2-6 seconds.etc. Note: These skills are auto use (like charm animal), so as long as you have it in your 8 slots it will work, however no more than 1(maybe 2) of these are allow.
Lastly is the Non-Attribute Linked Skills, this will have skills like Ultimate luck- all luck skills have 100% chance of success and cannot be interupted but the skill will take 3x longer to recharge. etc. Note: these skills will varie some might require energy and some will be free.

Maybe ability to order pizza or any other food while playing would be a good addition
I also have some question regarding to Speakeasy; Teamspeak, Do we have to pay to use our headphones to communicate with each others? Plus is there any plan for better graphic updates in the future?
Feedbacks please...

Default A few suggestions i would like to make.

1) The right mouse button when pressed down controls the camera. I would like a option to have that a toggle, so i could just click it once and have the mouse be camera control, then click again to turn it off.

2) The limit of only 4 characters per account is really a problem for me. I like to try out all the professions. Currently there are six professions and i can only create four characters. I can't even have one of each profession. This could get even worse when chapter 2 is released with more professions. I know that you are now able to switch your secondary profession, but how easy is that and how soon is that availble?

3) Item constrains are still causing me too much problems. There are so many crafting, collector, quest, and equipment items. i don't have enough room to put them anywhere. I find stuff i have no idea what it is used for and would like to hold on to just in case it is for a quest that i will find later. I constantly find myself trading items with my friends to try and save on item stacking, and also trading it back to me on a different character. An item storage would be useful in town that holds alot more items that you can store but only access in towns. A way to trade items to your other characters without have to trade them to someone else, logout, come back as another character to recieve the item. A post office where you could mail items to characters (your personal storage, another one of your characters, or a friend).

4) This is a silly thing, and i laughed at myself when i realized what was going on. I was trying to save up gold to get the later level armor. i believe the cost is $1,500 gold. I say my gold around 900+ i would go to town sell off all the item that i collected and check to see how much i had. When i looked it was less then $100. i though it was a glitch. My friend had the same problem. So we logged on to our other character and traded some gold around so i could get $1,500. And it kept happening, we figured it was either when we were zoning a glitch would appear, or a new build would be available rebalanceing gold and items. So we just report what we thought were bugs and went on. Later i realized the game was converting $1,000 gold into one platnium. Needless to say i felt pretty dumb, but i thought on mouse-over the picture of the platnium and goldm, it should tell you what it means and how much gold you have, or even if it is covered in the manual would be fine.

I second that. I would be very hard pressed to delete a character, if ever, that I've put many hours into just to try out a new profession. If I had a character per primary profession, it would allow me to have a fuller experience in GuildWars instead of being locked into just 4. I get attached to my characters and do not like the idea of having to delete one.

Drop issues

1) In PVE many times a group fights a monster longer than they should, for whatever reason, and, it can be after they killed say 5 lower level monsters 3 of which dropped an item. Well, the timer on the drop assignments sometimes expires before they kill the monster from hell that just wouldn't die and then it's back to being a FFA for the items. So is it possible that the drop timer starts when the battle is over like when health regen starts?

2) Someone in a group might have a lousy weapon and you just got an elite version, say a bow. But you are a warrior and the bow is +9 marksmanship and the guy with the +4 bow could use the blue lettered one you just got. Since it's only one item and not a trade many times people just drop the item near the other player for them to pick-up, however many times another member picks it up first ( often they leave afterward ) So is it possible that I could assign that drop to another player?

**Admins please, if this has been covered above delete this post and I apologize for the reptition, it's just such a long thread.

Im quoting myself in order to provide a better explanation and suggestion.

Lost Weapon:
When at the trader, I was selling weapons that I thought were in my backback. However, they were the ones I thought I had "equipped". I was trying out the axe, sword, and hammer to see which one I liked the best.
Suggestion: Even if you are not using the weapon, if you have equipped it under equppied weapons menu at the bottom of screen, you sould not be able to sell it. I sold my sword (which I thought was an extra one I had picked up), and my axe and hammer. And it left me with no weapons. Yes, it is my fault for not keeping track of it, but Im suggestin git to help prevent something like this happening again.

Bunker raid:
Part of my problem with this level was the fact that I thought the academy was a new area with more quests so I didnt bother trying to get a weapon thinking that I could maybe get a better one in the academy.
My bad.
However, the bunker raid was aggravating with since you could not go back and were essentailly caught in a "loop". You could not go forward or back unless you completed that mission. Even with the weapon I had picked up in the bunker raid, it was still very difficult and the NPC that accompanied you wasnt very helpful.
Suggestion:
Maybe less monsters for the bunker raid.
Maybe make the beginning of the mission a small outpost for you to join other people in order to complete the quest instead of having to use the NPC.

A single player vs player duel would be interesting. There has been times when I wanted to duel someone who was acting like a jerk.Could request a duel within town and if player accepts, get into party and zone outside.I think honor points would be a neat idea.Get dishonor points if a player rejects a duel.Honor and dishonor points would just be a rating and wouldn't affect gameplay at all.Could request duel like only once in 10 minutes to reduce spamming.Would be interesting to check out how many people reject personal duels.Would give you an idea about that persons personality and wether or not to party with such a person.I mean would you want someone in your guild if that person has more dishonor points than honor points?Just an idea.

I don't agree with getting dishonor points for turning down a duel. I play for PvE as do many others, I'm not into PvP or GvG, although I do belong to a guild and have tried both during the BWE. Therefore, I would probably turn down any dueling request, not out of a lack of Honor, but out of a lack of interest! I do agree with the rest, it sounds like an interesting concept, and I might be more inclined to PvP if it were 1v1.

A great (and IMHO essential) addition to game, would be the abillity to spectate PvP battles.

I know that live spectating is out of the question dew to limitations of the network and server capabilities.(many users in the same place al exchanging data between each other, wich the server has to synchronize and to keep track of).

But this problem can be circumvented by recording the pvp battlle on the users machine.(like demorec in ut2004 for example)
After the match the user can walk into a portal and the recorded battle will be loaded like a regular level.
You then can watch the battle, and for instance switch the viewpoint to different players of the battle and analyse where you made mistakes, so you can improve your tactics and fightingstyle.

And a very cool addition would be that the server records matches of the top ranking guilds wich can be view by all players,so they can learn a thing or two.

Probably mentioned by someone before...but I'd like to add my opinion to it:

GW needs good death animation.

Considering how many ways a player can die in the game, it'd be great if additional animation/textures can be implemented to show better death scene. Doesn't necessarily have to be gory or bloody...but it'd be good to see a person dying from a Fireball will have a charred body (no pun intended)

Suggestions:

Pin-cushioned corpse dying from arrows. (that's my #1 want-to-see actually)

Discolored corpse dying from DoTs or drain-life-type spells. Or maybe a bloated diseased corpse with accompanying big ugly flies around the body? Or even maggots growing from the body! (ok, this would be a bit too hard to do)

Visible wounds dying from warriors' attack. Dismembered limbs? Or a body bent with impossible angles?

Charred corpse dying from fire/lightning spells.

Iced corpse dying from cold-dmg spells. A blue-colored corpse would do too, althought I'm thinking more towards Subzero icing from Mortal Combat.
